Grand Velas Riviera Maya
I didn’t think it could get any better!
This was our second stay at Grand Velas the first time was just myself and my husband last November, and as the title suggests I didn’t think it could get any better! We had been planning a once in a lifetime trip to Mexico for my parents for many years; we tried 3 years ago but due to ill health of my father had to sadly cancel. So 3 years on we finally got to make this trip of a lifetime happen and what was even more special my parents were celebrating there 58 years of marriage and what was unbeknown to my parents and children we were also going to be renewing our wedding vows. We started off the first week of our trip at a different hotel, then told my parents and children to pack there things as we were moving to Grand Velas for our second week they were so excited because they had heard all about our trip in November, Dad couldn’t see how it was going to be any better as he thought it was amazing at the hotel we were already at, I told him you wait and see it’s going to go up several more levels! When we arrived at the impressive entrance and went through the gates my mum and dads face was just in awe of the sheer space of the grounds, there are three different lobbies at Grand Velas. Zen, is set within the jungle with a beautiful large fully stocked super cool looking bar, and a really impressive looking Asian restaurant called Sen Lin this has a really nice drinks area for before and after your meal, Zen is very peaceful and tranquil with very spacious rooms and several small pools with fantastic waiter service. We were dropped off at the Ambassador lobby, This section of Velas has a huge family pool, rooms that overlook the ocean and has most of the restaurants here, we were greeted like royalty and there was a glass of Champagne ready for us, check in was very smooth and swift. We were introduced to a lady from concierge called Sandra who took us to our rooms, when the door opened mum and dad and my children couldn’t believe there eyes on how big and luxurious the rooms were, you have a really nice big bed with wonderful soft pillows all your shower and bath products are L’Occitane and the mini bar is stocked with red/ white wine lots of scrummy snacks and beverages. You don’t even have to worry about taking your toothbrush they have it all sorted including tooth paste & mouth wash! Sandra made sure for rest of our holiday she was there to take care of our every need from booking all our meals, getting more hangers for our rooms and surprising us with lovely touches in our rooms, On the first day my mum and dad came back to there room and Sandra had arranged for a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries with happy 58 years anniversary written on it, mum and dad were over the moon. On our first day sitting around the family pool, the pool manager of the Ambassador Aaron came and introduced himself and said if there was anything he could do for my family whilst we were there it would be his pleasure, I mentioned when we stayed in November they had a big hamster ball out in the pool for the children and wondered if it was possible at some point of our stay to have it out for my girls, he told me he would make sure it was out for me tomorrow at 11.00 and to his word it was out and my girls had a blast. We were lucky enough this time around due to the refurbishment of the Azul which is the international restaurant to have the whole family to eat breakfast and lunch at the Bistro which is normally for adults only, this is our favourite place for breakfast and lunch as it’s a A la carte restaurant and I have never had French toast like it, we were so excited to see our favourite boys from last time Willian, Ernesto, Eduardo, and two new faces Jose and Silvestre, these boys if you get to meet them when you go make you feel like your the only people there and nothing is to much trouble for them, my girls were always making them laugh, Silvestre has the biggest smile ever and Willian greets you like you were his own family as they all do. September tends to be Velas’s quieter month, which is why we chose it, but even when we were there last November and they had a big conference being held there we still had fantastic service. Even when it is quite the Entertainment team have plenty for you to do all day, every morning they would come and say hi and try and entice us in to doing something with them, most days we just wanted to relax around the pool the team were great they never hassled you if you didn’t want to join in like at other hotels I have been to in the past. One of the managers if you get to meet him is Carlos Armas and he is in charge of the adult section The Grand, now Carlos is one top guy, He instantly remembered us from November and embraced my girls and mum and dad and made them feel really important, he remembered the drink I had enjoyed back in November and made sure our day beds by the beach were ready for us every day and my preferred drink was ready for me, my husband Jon was talking to Carlos at the bar and telling him how he was enjoying the bottled beers at Velas but there were two brands that he loved that they didn’t stock, the next day when Jon went to the bar Carlos had gone above and beyond service and brought some bottles of Jon’s favourite beer and put them behind the bar for him “ Amazing Amazing Amazing” My daughters were desperate to see a Coati as when we stayed in November we were lucky enough to see one on our balcony, Carlos made sure as soon as one of the staff saw one to let him know, and sure enough on our last day Carlos got a call and my girls got to see one. Thanks Carlos. If you are considering having a wedding then look no further than a Grand Velas, We booked this very last minute and the wedding team were fantastic, we are all the way from the UK, From start to finish the organisation of the ceremony, flowers, photos, hair and makeup ran without a hitch. We love everything about Mexico so it only felt right to have a Mayan ceremony, which was just wonderful I cannot speak highly enough about the whole day. It’s hard to choose which restaurant was our favourite as they are all wonderful, but if I had to it would be Piaf and Lucca, which is the French and Italian. If you go to the French make sure you have the roll with blue cheese in it, it is to die for. Last but not least as the week went on my girls wanted to go to the kids club, they had such a lovely time there, my eldest daughter who is 9 was very reluctant at first as I think she thought it might be babyish but once she went in it was hard to get them back out, so thank you lovely ladies at the kids club my girls loved you. So if you’re still reading this... If you don’t want pampering and you want just ok food, Small pokey rooms, Unavailable sun beds all day ! Then don’t spend your hard earned money here as all you will get at Grand Velas is luxury and I just want to add even the toilet rolls are soft and lovely! My parents are not on Trip advisor so underneath is a little bit from my Mum and Dad! Just to add to what my Daughter has said about Grand Velas . We thought the hotel was spectacular from the spotless luxurious room that we stayed in with a sea view and Jacuzzi in the room. To the lovely pools and sandy beach where the waiters serve you with drinks and food all day long. One of the days my husband had come out of the water and was about to clean his sun glasses when the waiter said “Here let me do that for you sir” he took his glasses, out of his pocket came a cloth and spray and polished them up. We could not help but laugh, we were amazed, that’s is how efficient the staff are. All the 7 restaurants are different and the food was top class and delicious in each one and was spoilt for choice. The waiters were so friendly. We were just blown away by it all. Thank you to all the staff to Sandra and special thanks to Carlos who attended our every need and made it such a fantastic holiday for us. What more could you ask for. It certainly was a holiday and an experience of a lifetime and one we will never forget thanks to our wonderful daughter and son in law.
